About the Artwork

La Fonda Francesa de Lala Ary [French Hotel] was a famous hotel in Binondo, Manila, during Dr. Jose Rizal's time. It was founded in 1810 by the American Firm Russell and Sturgis, but it was later sold to a native Filipino Mestizo named Lala Ary. Rizal, as a student in Manila, stayed in this hotel, and in his famous novel "Noli Me Tangere," the lead character Crisostomo Ibarra temporarily stayed here before proceeding to San Diego.

Muted earthy tones highlight the historic scene with colonial architecture, evoking a sense of timeless urban life and human interaction.
