About the Artwork

This was an official entry to the National Quincentennial Painting Competition "Sovereignty Category."

It is a two-way painting that shows the battle of Mactan with the naked eye and, when viewed in reverse (negative), the other heroes that followed after the 1521 victory: from Rizal to Bonifacio, Quezon to Liwayway, Penaflorida to Ambubuyog, and other unsung heroes.

The package includes a write-up.

Through the use of bright and contrasting colors, detailed figures, and active composition, it evokes a sense of struggle and historical tension. The complex setting and symbolic elements highlight conflict and cultural richness.
