About the Artwork

Ladies of the Loboc River with their ukuleles

On our trip to Bohol, an island in the Visayas region of the Philippines, we cruised the Loboc River, and it had emerald green water surrounded by lush forest. We docked with another floating cruise with people dancing, singing loudly, and ladies strumming their ukuleles.

The floating dock was akin to a nipa hut roofed and walled with coconut leaves--with hanging ukuleles. The ladies were gracefully strumming their ukuleles together with the others, singing a local song. It was like a mini-party on a cruise that invited the tourists to celebrate and experience the local culture.

This painting has a palette of green alike to the water river and vegetation. The yellow, as a warm welcome from locals, is complemented by the festive colors of red, blue, and orange.

Balanced use of warm yellow and earthy green tones creates a sense of unity and togetherness. The figures in synchronized poses and musical elements evoke a serene and harmonious mood.
