About the Artwork

It highlights the remarkable Mactan Shrine, Datu Lapu-Lapu, our national hero who represents bravery, leadership, nationalism, and self-reliance among Cebuanos.

It also reflects how the Sugbo, the ancient name for Cebu, evolved into what it is today–a great honor and appreciation for all he has done for us.

(The artwork is on display at Bintana Coffee House, 181K Elizabeth Pond St., Camputhaw, Cebu City, from August 8 to Nov. 7, 2024.)

Bold earthy tones and warm colors bring attention to the strong, heroic figure and cultural elements, portraying a sense of strength and pride in heritage, creating an empowering mood.
