Yes
Menchie is a late bloomer and has started painting seriously in 2018. But she's been into a lot of art and crafts for more than 20 years. She took several art workshops and has joined group exhibits. Menchie doesn't want to limit herself to one medium; she has learned to use acrylic, watercolor, soft pastel, oil and loves to use the gold leaf. She also has explored mixed media, using her own crafts and adding them to her paintings.

Daisies in a vase in watercolor
Black wood frame with glass at 19" x 25"x1"

The shadow of the big vase was painted with soft pastels.

"Limitless Possibilities" was a painting that went wrong. It was supposed to be a floral abstract, but the background turned out poorly. But I made do with it and still worked it out as an abstract work after several revisions in the upper and lower parts.

Q&A with Menchie Vitente
What inspires your art?
Inspiration can strike from the most unexpected places. A simple walk in the park might ignite ideas, or an ordinary moment in daily life could suddenly reveal a beautiful composition. The colors of my surroundings, whether vibrant or subtle, often dictate the palette of my next piece. Additionally. the works of art and craft created by my friends serve as constant sources of motivation and creativity, pushing me to explore new techniques and styles.
What's the most unforgettable feedback you got from your audience?
One of the most unforgettable feedback I received was from a client who messaged me that my works were better than what she saw at an art gallery in Europe. Hearing such praise and knowing that my art resonated with someon on that level was incredibly validating.I always hope people take the feeling of light and happiness from my art through the bright colors and uplifting themes I include in my work. I want my art to bring a sense of positivity and share light into people's lives.
How would you explain your artistic style?
My artistic style blends realism and impressionism, occassionally shifting into abstract expressionism for its liberating qualities. Realism allows me to capture the essence of my subjects in a lifelike manner. At the same time, impressionism enables me to play with light, color, and texture to convey mood and emotion.I describe my art as "pleasing." Whether painting a serene landscape or an abstract composition, I am to create art that brings peace and harmony to the viewer's life.
What advice can you give aspiring Filipino visual artists?
Art is a continuous learning process; practice and continue your passion for art, and don't be afraid to try new things.
