Visual artist Carla Norberta Francisco holds her first solo exhibition, “Hey Journal, I Tried Something,” at RiseSpace Gallery, Makati City, from Jan. 28 to Feb. 18, 2024.
Her exhibition explores the therapeutic power of journaling brought about by her life’s challenges and meaningful perspectives on mental health.
A featured artwork, for instance, comes with a personal note that says: “It’s OK.” It assures the viewer that it’s fine if you don’t have everything figured out and that some days are meant to be tough.
“I’m allowed to be, and I’m allowed to take up space,” she said.
It’s OK today, tomorrow, and every day.”
In the exhibit, Carla’s 15-piece collection offers a safe space for the vulnerable and reduces isolation. It wraps up with Carla, who is on-site, sharing some postcard sketches and reminding everyone to enjoy life.
Everyone is also invited to create sketches, which they can contribute to the exhibit or bring home. This interactive feature enables the visitors to leave the space with much positivity—enough to foster kindness with one another.
