UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), a nonprofit organization protecting the rights of every child, especially those most vulnerable and disadvantaged, has announced this year’s edition of the popular UNICEF Christmas Cards, featuring the works of the renowned artist Manuel Baldemor.
The painter, sculptor, and printmaker Baldemor, who has appeared in national and international exhibitions for over 50 years, channels the essence of the Philippines through his art, explicitly depicting the life and culture of his hometown, Paete. This folk artist is known for his simple geometric shapes and “Filipino touches.” He shows in his work the ordinary, customary, and simple kindness of the Filipino people.
This dedication to the arts has also made him a favorite artist for the UNICEF Christmas Cards, helping to promote the Philippines’ culture and festivals through his captivating illustrations.
Reflecting on this purpose, Baldemor says, “My one wish for all children is to grow healthy and happy. As they are the ones who hold our hopes, our future.”
For as low as P1,000, you’ll get a box containing 12 artworks, including Baldemor’s “Pasko sa Aming Bayan” (1992), “Christmas Lanterns Festival” (2006), “Graces from the Land” (2008), and “Pasko ng Pamilya Pilipino” (2024). The proceeds are directed to UNICEF’s life-saving programs for children, including health, nutrition, education, protection, and emergency relief.
